Man shot after hospital stand-off

Police shot a man in a wheelchair at a hospital in the US today after a five-hour stand-off during which he claimed his oxygen tank had a detonator.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said 32-year-old Terrance Baughman was undergoing surgery after being shot in the chest in the incident in Boulder, Colorado.

Ms Huntley said officers had not been able to deactivate a device on Baughman’s oxygen tank.

They will use a robot to remove the device from the hospital and dismantle it in a nearby park.

The 200-bed Boulder Community Hospital was shut down this morning when Baughman said he had the detonator.

Patients were moved, and emergency-room patients were taken to other hospitals.
