China asks Nepal to halt Everest climbs

Nepalese mountaineering officials say China has asked Nepal to stop climbing activities on Mount Everest during the spring season.

Nepalese officials were yet to decide on the Chinese request to stop all climbing on the world’s highest mountain until May 10 amid concerns of protests against Chinese rule over Tibet during the highly publicised run of the Olympic torch to the 29,035-foot summit.
