Shuttle's return clears way for satellite shot

The return of the space shuttle Atlantis today has given the US military a clear shot at shooting down its rogue spy satellite, defence chiefs said.

The navy is planning to hit the out of control satellite with a heat-seeking missile as early as tonight. They had been waiting for Atlantis to return to Earth so it would not be hit by falling debris.
