Relief in Brussels as French ratify treaty

French ratification of Europe’s reform treaty was greeted with huge relief in the European Commission in Brussels today.

Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso even staged a mini press conference to mark the event – something he did not do when four other EU countries also approved the treaty in similar parliamentary votes without a hitch.
