Police deployed to protect tourists in India
Authorities deployed thousands of police in a popular India resort area to protect tourists after a group protesting at the building of industrial parks said it could not ensure the safety of visitors.
The group in Goa, a palm-fringed state on Indiaâs western coast popular with foreigners, said earlier this week that its protests would intensify on Friday, prompting the state government to send 6,000 police and police reserve officers onto beaches and into towns.
âFull security will be provided to tourists. There is no reason to worry,â Goaâs chief minister, Digambar Kamat told the Zee News television channel.
