Oldest US WW1 soldier dies

The oldest known surviving American First World War soldier has died aged 109.

J Russell Coffey, one of only three US veterans from the “war to end all wars,” died in a nursing home in North Baltimore, where he had lived for the past few years.

Mr Coffey never saw action because he was still in basic training when the war ended.

The two remaining veterans are Frank Buckles, 106, of Charles Town, West Virginia; and Harry Richard Landis, 108, of Sun City Center, Florida.
