Fourth suspect held over Meredith murder in Italy

A fourth man wanted in connection with the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy was arrested in Germany today.

The 21-year-old suspect, Rudy Hermann Guede from the Ivory Coast, was arrested on an international warrant in the western German city of Mainz.

Police identified Guede yesterday and said it was believed that he had left the central Italian city of Perugia where Miss Kercher was found murdered on November 2.

Three other suspects are being held in custody in Italy, including Miss Kercher’s American roommate Amanda Marie Knox.

Guede was arrested while travelling by bus to southern Germany.

He is the fourth suspect named by police in connection with the killing of 21-year-old Miss Kercher.

Her American roommate, University of Washington student Knox, Knox’s Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, and Congolese-born pub owner Diya “Patrick” Lumumba are also in police custody.

Police identified Guede as a suspect yesterday and said he is believed to have left Perugia the day Miss Kercher’s body was found.

Italian news reports said a bloody fingerprint on Miss Kercher’s pillow and on toilet paper led investigators to Guede.

All four have denied wrongdoing.
