John Howard today vowed to fight to remain Australia’s prime minister despite continuing pressure for a leadership change in the face of opinion polls pointing to a landslide defeat at looming elections.

“I believe the next election will be difficult for the coalition, but we can win it,” Howard said in Canberra.
