Gaza militants shot in border attack

A group of Palestinian militants entered Israel from the Gaza Strip early today, firing at an Israeli military position before soldiers shot them, the army said.

Palestinian militants in Gaza said three gunmen were involved.

In a joint statement, three small militant groups said two gunmen were killed, and the whereabouts of the third militant was unknown.

The army could not immediately confirm the number of deaths and said it was still searching the area, near the Erez crossing along Israel’s southern border with Gaza.

One soldier was lightly wounded, it said.
