Denmark has handed over its ground force responsibilities in southern Iraq to the British military, but it sent four helicopters that will remain to support the operations.

The Danish Parliament decided on June 1 to replace its 460-member army contingent with a small air force squad. The government said the troop reductions were in line with plans for Iraqi forces to assume responsibility for the area around Basra.
