Brown calls emergency meeting after attack

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to chair a meeting of the Government’s Cobra emergency contingencies committee in Whitehall in response to the incident at Glasgow Airport.

The meeting, bringing together Government ministers, police counter-terrorism officers, security service and senior Whitehall officials, comes after Cobra met earlier today to discuss yesterday’s attempted car-bombings in London.

Downing Street said that Mr Brown was being kept fully informed on developments in the Glasgow inquiry.

A spokeswoman said he had called Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond to discuss the incident.

As she arrived for what will be her third Cobra meeting in just three days as British Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith described the incident at Glasgow Airport as "serious".

She added: "The Prime Minister is about to chair a Cobra meeting where we will be updated on developments on the ground and will be able to decide what further steps we need to take to protect the public."
