14 US troops killed in Iraq

The US military today announced the deaths of 14 American troops, including five killed in a single roadside bombing and one whose vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade.

The deadliest strike was a roadside bomb that struck a convoy in north-eastern Baghdad today, killing five Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers, three Iraqi civilians and one Iraqi interpreter, the military said in a statement.

Also today, a rocket-propelled grenade struck a vehicle in northern Baghdad, killing one Multi-National Corps – Iraq soldier and wounding three others, another statement said.

Four other Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers were killed and one was wounded yesterday when their convoy was struck by a roadside bomb in a western neighbourhood in the capital, the military said.

Southwest of Baghdad, two Task Force Marne soldiers were killed and four were wounded yesterday when explosions struck near their vehicle.

Two Marines assigned to Multi-National Force – West were killed yesterday while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, west of Baghdad, the military said.
