US soldier killed in Iraq

A US soldier was killed by small arms fire north-east of Baghdad, the US military said in Iraq today.

The soldier was assigned to Task Force Lighting and died yesterday while conducting operations in Diyala province, the US military said .

The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification.
