N Korea 'may have fired missiles'

North Korea may have launched a barrage of short-range missiles off the country’s west coast, a news report said today.

“We have received an intelligence tip that North Korea fired several short-range missiles into the waters off its western coast,” an unnamed intelligence official said, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

Officials at the National Intelligence Service, South Korea’s main spy agency, could not be immediately reached for comment. The Joint Chiefs of Staff said they were trying to confirm the report.

Last month, North Korea launched at least one short-range missile into eastern coastal waters, which South Korean and US officials said was part of the communist country’s regular military drills.
