A flash flood swept over a series of waterfalls in a popular southern Thailand recreation area today, killing at least 21 people and leaving more feared dead, officials said.

A flash flood swept over a series of waterfalls in a popular southern Thailand recreation area today, killing at least 21 people and leaving more feared dead, officials said.

The tragedy occurred at the Sairung and Praisawan waterfalls, which are in the same area in Trang province, 420 miles south of Bangkok.

Fifteen bodies were found at Sairung, and the other six others found at Praisawan, about three miles away, said Soralak Thiepwu, deputy chief of the provincial disaster prevention centre.

About 200 people were thought to have been at the sites when the flood occurred.
