Suicide car bomber strikes Iraqi army checkpoint
One soldier was killed and another wounded when a suicide car bomber drove into an Iraq army checkpoint in Baghdad today.
The attack damaged nearby shops in the predominantly Sunni western neighbourhood of Jami’a, police said.
A roadside bomb exploded 300 yards away about five minutes later but it caused no casualties, police said.
Seven civilians also were wounded in two separate attacks in south-eastern Baghdad.
A bomb exploded inside a minibus, wounding five passengers; and a mortar attack struck a market in Zafaraniyah, wounding two people, police said.
