Iran earmarks new funds for nuclear power plants

Iran today said it had earmarked £700m (€1bn) for construction of nuclear power plants amid international pressure to abandon its nuclear programme, state television reported.

Word of the planned funding came as top members of the UN Security Council were meeting in London today to consider additional sanctions on Iran for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment, a key nuclear process.
