Iraq: Eight killed in Najaf suicide blast

At least eight people were killed and 31 wounded today when a suicide car bomber struck an Iraqi police checkpoint in the Shiite holy city of Najaf.

Police said the explosion occurred about 10.30am local time as the market area in central Najaf, 100 miles south of Baghdad, was filled with shoppers.
