India: Building under contruction collapses killing 19

The wall of a warehouse under construction collapsed in western India today, killing at least 19 labourers and injuring six others, police said.

The six injured people were hospitalised, said Pravin Pawar, deputy commissioner of police.

The labourers were working at the site when the wall came crashing down in Kuthari, a village on the outskirts of Mumbai, India’s financial and entertainment capital, Pawar said.

Police have arrested the warehouse owner, the Press Trust of India quoted Ramrao Wagh, the area police commissioner, as saying.

Rescuers cleared the debris, Pawar said, adding that local authorities would investigate what had led to the collapse.
