A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Japan late today, rocking buildings in the capital city Tokyo but causing no tsunami. No injuries or damage were immediately reported.

The quake struck at 3:18am on Tuesday (6.18pm Irish time today) and was centred 105 miles underground in Shizuoka prefecture (state), 94 miles west of Tokyo, Japan’s meteorological agency said.
