Nine pilgrims killed in Iraq ambush

Gunmen ambushed a convoy carrying Shiite Muslim pilgrims home from Saudi Arabia in central Iraq today, killing at least nine people, a provincial governor said.

It is the latest example of the violence US President George Bush hopes to quell by announcing a new strategy for the war-torn country.
