Man killed by Pakistan airport bomb
A car bomb exploded near the entrance of the airport in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar today, killing one man and wounding two others, police said.
The explosion went off at around 7.10 am local time, when the airport was crowded with hundreds of people travelling on flights to and from the Middle East.
Iftikhar Khan, a senior police officer, said the bomb was planted in a Suzuki car which was parked near the airport’s main entrance and wounded three men, one of whom later died in a hospital.
There was no immediate information on how seriously the two other men were hurt. The blast shattered windows in several cars.
Police have cordoned off the area, Khan said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Peshawar is the capital of North West Frontier province, which borders Afghanistan.
There have been several recent bombings in the city, including a blast at a crowded market in October which killed six people and wounded 40. It was not clear who was behind the attacks.
