India and Pakistan agree on nuclear safety measures
India and Pakistan have agreed on measures to combat terrorism and prevent a nuclear conflict in south Asia at the first peace talks since a terrorist attack on Mumbai’s train network in July, an official said today.
The anti-terror measure was key to the resumption of the peace process, which India put on hold after blaming the Mumbai attack on militants based in Pakistan and that country’s intelligence service.
Pakistani Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammed Khan said today at the conclusion of two days of talks that the neighbours had agreed to set up a commission to exchange information on terror threats and had prepared a deal intended to limit the risk of an inadvertent nuclear conflict.
