PW Botha, the apartheid-era president who led South Africa through its worst racial violence and deepest international isolation, died peacefully in his sleep. He was 90.

Former state president FW De Klerk today extended his condolences to the family and friends of Botha who died at his home, Die Anker, in The Wilderness on the South Coast last night.
