South Africa dismisses 2010 World Cup fears
South Africa’s parliament has approved legislation providing the legal basis for the 2010 World Cup, with lawmakers showing rare unanimity that South Africa will be ready to host the global football showcase.
Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile dismissed criticism that the construction of stadiums is behind schedule and that the country’s transport network won’t be able to cope with the influx of visitors. Stofile also sought to ease fears about the cost.
