Five officers killed in Afghan mosque bomb

A bomb explosion outside a mosque holding a memorial service for a mujahedeen commander in eastern Afghanistan has killed five police officers, a police spokesperson has said.

The blast went off in the yard of a mosque in the Farmay Adha area, 12 miles south of the city of Jalalabad, as people gathered to mark the death of Younis Khalis, a former mujahedeen commander, who died last week.

Ghafor Khan, the spokesman for the provincial police chief, said ambulances had been called to the scene.
