10 killed in China mudslide

Heavy rains triggered a mudslide that swept onto a railway bridge in China’s far west, killing 10 people and injuring one, the official Xinhua News Agency said today.

The mudslide occurred yesterday at the Lanzhou-Urumqi railway in the Xinjiang region, Xinhua said.

Five workers were killed immediately and one was injured, it said. Another five were reported missing, but their bodies were found early today, Xinhua said.

It did not give any other details on what the workers were doing.
