Swedish national killed in Baghdad bomb attack
A Swedish national employed by the British security company Genric in Iraq was killed in a bomb attack over the weekend in the Iraqi capital, the foreign ministry in Stockholm said today.
The man, whose name was not released, was in his 30s and was killed on Saturday, said foreign ministry spokesman Christian Carlsson.
“Relatives were informed by the company which handled everything in Baghdad, and also the transport home of the body, that is why we do not know very much,” Carlsson said.
The ministry did not know the circumstances of the attack. On Saturday, insurgent blasts in and around Baghdad killed at least 27 people, despite Iraqi government efforts to boost security.
The death was not Sweden’s first casualty in Iraq. In April, two other Swedish citizens, an Iraq-born father and his son who had returned for a family reunion in Baghdad, died in a mosque blast.
