Nepal’s government today suspended the national police and intelligence chiefs while they are being investigated for alleged human rights abuses against protesters during last month’s pro-democracy movement, an official said.

The Cabinet of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said it was suspending Chief of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa, Chief of Armed Police Sahabir Thapa, chief of the National Intelligence Department Debi Sharma and five other senior police officials.
