Suicide kills at least 17 in Iraq
A suicide truck bomber set off his explosives today in a public market in the centre of Tal Afar, in the north of Iraq, killing at least 17 people and injuring 35, police said.
The attack occurred in the centre of Tal Afar, according to Col. Abdul-Karim Mohammed of the Nineveh provincial police.
The bomber used a pickup truck for the attack, he said.
In March, US President George Bush cited Tal Afar, a mostly Turkomen city 260 miles north-west of Baghdad, as a success story after US troops regained control there last year.
