14 Chinese miners killed in gas-burning accident
Fourteen miners were killed when gas caught fire at an illegal coal pit in south-west China.
The accident occurred late yesterday in Weining county of Guizhou province during a so-called āgas deflagrationā burning procedure, which produces a significant amount of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and intense heat, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
It was not immediately clear whether the miners died from the burning or inhaling poisonous gases.
The death toll is 14, a duty officer surnamed Liu at the Weining county government said.
He said the cause of the accident was being investigated.
