Palestinian treasury is empty, Cabinet told
Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh told the first meeting of the Cabinet today that the Palestinian treasury was empty, and the new government was struggling to find money to pay the salaries of thousands of workers.
in Gaza City, Haniyeh said his Hamas government inherited the financial crisis from the previous Fatah government.
Hamas defeated Fatah in legislative elections, and last week the new Cabinet was sworn into office.
“We are going to do our utmost as a government to pay the salaries of the Palestinian Authority employees despite the cash crisis that we are facing,” Haniyeh said.
