Liberia demands handover of exiled ex-president

Nigeria today said it was considering a request from Liberia to the hand over ex-President Charles Taylor.

Taylor is living in exile in Nigeria and wanted on war crimes charges for his role in Sierra Leone’s brutal civil war.

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who helped arrange the one-time warlord’s asylum to help end Liberia’s civil war, is consulting with regional leaders who helped broker Taylor’s exile on how to respond, the presidency said in a statement.
