Afghan rioters clash with police and Nato
Rioters clashed with police and Nato peacekeepers during demonstrations today against the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
Norwegian troops used tear gas to disburse protesters outside their base in Maymana, a city in the north-west, said Squadron Leader Annie Gibson-Sexton, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force.
Police officer Abdul Qadier said about 200 protesters threw stones at the base. Two women passers-by were hurt when they were hit. They were taken to hospital, along with several of the demonstrators who were affected by tear gas, he said.
