Abbas to open peace negotiations with Israel

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas today said he would enthusiastically take part in a new round of peace negotiations with Israel.

Abbas spoke a day after acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that after the Palestinians and Israelis completed their forthcoming elections he hoped he could begin negotiations with Abbas that would lead to “a permanent peace agreement between us and the Palestinians".
