The European Union will pledge $121m (€100m) to help fight bird flu, $20m (€16.5m) more than it had initially pledged, the EU health commissioner said today.

The European Union will pledge $120m (€100m) to help fight bird flu, $20m (€16.5m) more than it had initially pledged, the EU health commissioner said today.

The EU’s 25 member states were also expected to pledge another $120m (€100m) in total, Markos Kyprianou, the European Commission’s health commissioner, said on the sidelines of a two-day international donors’ conference in Beijing.
