The New Year's first airborne birth has taken place.

A woman gave birth to a baby boy while on board a plane travelling from France to the Indian Ocean island of Reunion.

Women past their seventh month of pregnancy are generally not allowed fly on aircraft, however staff in this case say the woman's condition was not obvious.

A doctor on board helped to deliver the baby and both mother and child are reported to be in good health.
