Anthrax hoax forces plane to return to Athens Airport

An Olympic Airlines flight to Cyprus returned to Athens International Airport today following a false claim that anthrax had been hidden on the plane.

Olympic Flight 329 bound for Larnaca, Cyprus, turned around shortly after take off following an anonymous telephone call to Greek police.

No trace of the deadly toxin was found on the plane, following a preliminary examination by experts, police said.

Also today, Athens’ central Omonia subway station was closed for more than one hour following a bogus bomb threat.
