Briton dies of Italian train crash injuries
A British resident of Italian origin has died in a Rome hospital after being hurt in a train collision south of the Italian capital that injured 70 people, hospital officials said today.
Antonio Vallillo, a 49 year-old from Luton, died during the night after undergoing surgery at the Umberto I Polyclinic, the hospital said. His was the first death reported as a result of Tuesday’s crash.
The collision occurred when a train headed from Rome to Campobasso slammed into another train travelling from Rome to Cassino that had stopped at the station in Roccasecca, about 80 miles south of the Italian capital.
