Efforts to free entangled whale off US coast suspended

A team of marine experts today halted efforts to free an endangered whale from a tangle of fishing gear after losing track of the animal off the North Carolina coast.

A line connecting the team’s telemetry buoy to the whale broke yesterday, and the whale disappeared soon after, said Barb Zoodsma, a marine mammal biologist from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries Service.
