EU's Gaza border inspectors will be ready for opening
A European Union official today said that the initial 20-person delegation of EU monitors for the Gaza-Egypt border crossing would be at their posts and operating for tomorrow’s historic opening.
“Tomorrow everything will be in place and we will start,” said Johan Moeller, a spokesman for EU Mideast envoy Marc Otte.
The opening of the Rafah crossing marks the first time Palestinians will have control over a border.
Palestinian Cabinet Minister Mohammed Dahlan signed an agreement with Egyptian officials yesterday on crossing formalities, including visa requirements for Palestinians and liaison procedures between the two sides, Dahlan’s office said.
