Police seized 54 guns from the home of an 18-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend’s parents in the United States, it emerged tonight.

The massive arsenal of weapons and ammunition was confiscated from David Ludwig’s home during a police search, according to court papers.

The teenager is in custody without bail on double murder and kidnapping charges.

He allegedly shot Michael and Cathryn Borden dead at their Pennsylvania home on Sunday after an argument over his relationship with their daughter Kara, 14.

The pair were said to have been secretly dating.

Both were captured in Indiana after a high-speed car chase that ended when Ludwig crashed into a tree.

They were flown back to Pennsylvania where an investigation continues.

Police said that at this stage they are treating Kara as a crime victim.

Ludwig’s lawyer has described the teenager as “scared, anxious and confused.”

His parents, Gregory and Jane Ludwig, issued a statement asking for prayers and apologising for the incident.

“We are so truly sorry any of this has occurred, and are grateful for the great care being given to the Borden family,” it said.

“Living inside the devastation of this unimaginably horrible week, no words can adequately express the sorrow, shock and senselessness of what we are all experiencing.”

Defence lawyers are expected to ask for a postponement of a scheduled November 23 preliminary hearing.
