2,000 rally in Dhaka over attack on judges
Police have arrested 11 people in connection with a bomb attack by suspected Islamic militants that killed two judges in southern Bangladesh, an investigator said today.
The arrests were made as more than 2,000 opposition activists rallied and blamed poor security on the government.
A powerful home-made bomb was thrown yesterday at a minibus in Jhalakathi, killing the judges and wounding two others, including the suspected attacker, police said. The area is 75 miles south of the capital, Dhaka.
Eleven suspects were detained for questioning, said local police official Sohrab Hossain.
The suspects include a head teacher of an Islamic school in the town, Hossain said.
In Dhaka, security was tightened at court buildings across the capital. About 2,000 opposition activists rallied in Dhaka protesting against yesterday’s attack and blamed the government for its failure to ensure security.
