Turkey agrees to EU terms for talks

Turkey has agreed to European Union terms on opening membership talks, diplomats in Luxembourg said tonight.

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul was to fly to Luxembourg to formally open the entry talks, they said.

Ankara’s approval comes after EU governments gave the go-ahead to starting full membership talks with Turkey, after Austria dropped objections that had threatened to derail Ankara’s quest to join the EU.
