Chunnel detainee found guilty on two terrorism charges
British Muslim convert Andrew Rowe, detained at the Channel tunnel, was found guilty at London's Old Bailey today of two charges of having articles for use in terrorism.
Rowe, 34, was found to have traces of high explosives on a pair of socks rolled into a ball and found in his luggage at the French side of the tunnel in October 2003, the court has been told.
A book containing notes on how to fire a mortar bomb and a code substituting words such as 'target' with mobile phone models, were found at addresses connected to him in London and Birmingham.
Rowe, of Carlton Vale, Maida Vale, north west London, denies three charges of having articles for use in terrorism.
He told the court he had used the socks as gloves for unloading ammunition in Bosnia in 1995 and had since used them to practise martial arts kicks.
He said the notebook was a memento from Bosnia and the code would have been used to target courier drops for aid and arms to help Chechen separatists against the Russians.
