Explosion in central Cairo car park
An explosion was heard in central Cairo today, and the remains of a body, covered with newspapers, were seen lying beneath a bridge.
The blast happened in a public bus station not far from the Egyptian museum.
Four foreigners were injured.
Some police said they believed a car had exploded, but no vehicle debris could be seen in the area. A senior policeman on the scene said a bomb was thrown from the bridge above to the street below. Witnesses at the scene gave similar accounts.
The explosion happened on a road adjacent to a public bus station down the street from the Egyptian Museum.
The area was quickly cordoned off as people gathered and many police carrying semi-automatic rifles gathered to keep them back.
