Comedian Vic Reeves has been charged with drink-driving after he ploughed into a parked car close to his rural home, police confirmed tonight.

The 46-year-old, who stars in TV car insurance adverts, was arrested by officers on Friday after his vintage Jaguar crashed into a stationary car in which a 23-year-old woman was sitting.

Officers said the comic, real name Jim Moir, was involved in the incident in a road in Maidstone, Kent.

Reeves, who appeared in ITV hit I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! With 30-year-old wife Nancy Sorrell, was later charged with driving with excess alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that just after 3pm on Saturday a James Moir, born 1959, was charged with driving a vehicle with excess alcohol and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
