Indonesian and German scientists will begin installing a tsunami early warning system in the Indian Ocean by October, ministers from both countries said today.

Indonesian and German scientists will begin installing a tsunami early warning system in the Indian Ocean by October, ministers from both countries said today.

The network, expected to cost €44m, will use sensors on the ocean floor to transmit information about earthquakes and giant waves via buoys and satellites to an observation station on the coast.
