Swede, Briton executed, claims Iraqi website

An Islamic militant website claimed today a Briton and a Swede had been kidnapped in Iraq and killed. The claim could not be verified.

The written statement said the two were kidnapped in the northern town of Beiji. It claimed they were “two agents working for intelligence apparatus.” It did not say when they were kidnapped.

The claim, posted in the name of Ansar al-Sunnah, a known militant group in Iraq, was found on a website known as a clearinghouse for the group’s claims and extremist material.

A man, whose nationality was not revealed, is missing after a vehicle carrying security guards working for a British company was ambushed in Iraq yesterday. One Briton was killed in the attack.
