British general election expected on May 5

The British government has given its clearest indication yet that the country's general election will be held on May 5 after switching the date of the local elections in the North.

The local elections were due to go ahead on May 18, but were moved forward to May 5 today, fuelling speculation that the general election would be held on the same day.
